Upon college graduation, armed with a SLR camera (no digital back then) and little experience, I called numerous wildlife and environmental organizations looking for work. I hoped, through journalism and photography, to work with animals.

As I had grown up watching Jacques Cousteau’s adventures aboard his explorer ship, Calypso, one such call was to The Cousteau Society. The woman who answered asked if I spoke French – it was the emergency language of the ship and all on board had to be fluent. I was not.

Like Odysseus, in Homer’s novel, Odyssey, whose return home was delayed for years by a sea creature also named Calypso, I too have been delayed. So, many years later I’ve come to create Green Gal’s Calypso, a blog about wildlife and environmental issues.
